Rita Barrera and I, Gloria Ciolli, launched our company with the idea that with our combined years of training and extensive backgrounds in the fields of finance, mediation and psycho-dynamics we could offer a revolutionary service which would lessen the financial and emotional burdens that come with disputes. Our multi-disciplinary, co-mediation approach has been very successful in resolving a multitude of issues including divorce, prenuptial agreements, parenting and visitation, tenant-landlord issues, small business problems, post divorce and elder care decisions.
Mediation is a process by which an impartial third party, called a mediator, facilitates communication between parties in conflict. The mediator has no power to make decisions for the parties. Rather, the mediator’s goal is to assist and encourage disputing parties in reaching a voluntary, fully informed and mutually acceptable agreement. The mediator uses her skills and experience to establish a framework and process within which the parties can communicate. In mediation, the parties negotiate the settlement themselves and know what the conclusion will be, eliminating the risk of a judge or other decision-maker imposing a result that does not meet the parties needs. Our aim is to arrive at a win-win solution for our clients. One of the hallmarks of mediation is that the process is strictly confidential. We refer to consulting attorneys to handle all of the legal issues and draft the final agreement.
Mediation is a very useful tool, adaptable to anticipated problems, grievances and difficulties before the conflict becomes a dispute.
