What is the Sound Cup?
As many of you know, six years ago, EWGA Long Island was challenged by the Fairfield Chapter to a Match Play Challenge, - known as the "Sound Cup". The Sound Cup is a Match Play Tournament where EWGA Long Island Chapter Players compete in one-on-one match play competitions against Fairfield Chapter Competitors. The Team who wins the greater amount of overall individual matches will "take home the Sound Cup" !
Last year, the Teams consisted of 24 women from each Chapter, who competed in 24 individual matches. As we celebrate the 6th Anniversary of this special event, here's how the Cup stands: In the Inaugural Sound Cup, EWGA Long Island emerged victorious on Fairfields' turf, and took the coveted "Sound Cup" home to Long Island. Year 2 Fairfield regained the Cup on Long Island soil in a "nail biting" tournament. EWGA Long Island broke the tie in Year 3 with a victory again on Fairfields' home territory. In Year 4, Long Island became the first Team to win the Cup on its' home soil at Great Rock Golf Club! And in its' 5th Anniversary, Long Island emerged victorious in an unusually challenging year for the Cup. While the edge has been to Long Island ... Fairfield is always a tough competitor ... and we need your help to retain the Sound Cup on Long Island as we return to our home turf at Great Rock Golf Club on Saturday, September 13th !!!

What Are the Details?
Individual Match Play Competitions:
EWGA Long Island vs. EWGA Fairfield
Date: Saturday, September 13, 2008
Time: 1st Tee Time 11:30am - Consectuive Tee-Times
Location: Great Rock Golf Club, Wading River, NY
Team: Limited to 24 Players from each Chapter Eligibility Requirements: Official USGA Handicap Index of 25.0 or less - TEAM SELECTED as described below.
Cost: $130 includes greens fees / cart / individual trophies for winners / participation gift, box lunch and post- Tournament dinner at the course with our EWGA Fairfield competitors/friends!!

Who is Eligible To "Make the Team?"
First and foremost, eligible players must be EWGA LI Chapter members in good standing, and have an official USGA Handicap Index of 25.0 or less.
As the Team is limited to 24 spots - invitations to join the Long Island Team will be extended to our Chapter's 20 lowest "known" handicap players, with 4 spots reserved for "Captain's Picks". Upon decline of any invitations by the 20 lowest known handicap players, invitations will then be extended to the "next in line" in terms of handicap ranking of those who expressed an interest in playing. The 4 "Captain's Picks" - similar to how the Ryder Cup and several other competitions are done, are at the discretion of our Team Captains. These spots may be used to extend a spot on the Team to a player who is just on the border of qualification, or who has competed on previous Sound Cup Teams.

If you are a 25.0 or less handicap as of the August 6, 2008 handicap revision date, and would like to be considered for the Sound Cup Team, please email Patrice Franco at pfranco72@aol.com, with your NAME, Most Recent Handicap Index and GHIN # or EWGA GLMS #.
Note that it is your responsibility to let us know of your interest to be on the Team. We do NOT have comprehensive, up-to-date handicap information for all of our Chapter Members. While we know many of our lowest handicap players, with over 900 Chapter Members, we may not know of everyone out there with low handicaps! If you think you are one of them - or you meet the criteria of 25.0 handicap or less, Please let us know of your interest to join the Team.

How Will You Know Your Possibility of Making the Team?
Initial Invitations to the lowest "known" handicap players and Captain's Picks will go out automatically this week. If you receive a personal invitation, please RSVP BY AUGUST 13th. If we do not hear from you, your spot will be offered to the next in line who RSVPs to play.
All other competitors who have emailed us with their interest in playing will be contacted as to the status of their eligibility for the Team based on how the RSVPs are going in terms of handicap ranking. The FINAL TEAM will be selected by AUGUST 22nd.
