The Oyster Bay Golf Course was EWGA’s first golf venue when the organization began eight years ago. From the very beginning, those of us who played this course have been graced by the presence of two wonderful guys, our friends, Joe and John Gillespie, “The Starters.” Recently a wonderful accolade was conferred upon Joe by the village of Massapequa; a football field was named after him. Following is the text of a plaque that now resides there:

In Recognition of thirty-seven years of outstanding community service as a coach and Commissioner of the Massapequa Mustang Football Foundation, The John Burns Park west football field has been named the JOE GILLESPIE FOOTBALL FIELD
